Live today: Cancer of the Uterine Cervix

It has been a while since we welcomed the University Women's Hospital Tübingen to Sectio chirurgica. Therefore, we are very excited about tonight's episode:

Thursday, November 21st 2019, 6pm:

Cancer of the Uterine Cervix: Wertheim-Meigs Operation

Our patient is 44 years of age. She consults her doctor because of recurrent contact bleeding she has been suffering from for a year. She did not go to preventional check-ups in the years prior to this.

During the gynaecological examination a mass is found at the Portio vaginalis. The doctor suspects malignant event, aided by a HPV infection with a high-risk profile. Reason enough for the doctor to take a sample. The pathologist ultimately cofirms what the doctor suspected: a malignant cervical carcinoma.

The OR-team will perform a laparotomy, then visualise the vessels of the lesser pelvis and show you a complete removal of the lymph nodes. Finally they will also remove the uterine cervix.
